First 2024 event coming up soon. The end of may bank holiday weekend i will be off to Kettering for the Model Boat Mayhem weekend at Wicksteed park, shall be setting off after work on the friday evening. Then on the monday it's the first of the local events with the Country Fair at Sherborne Castle where i will be exhibiting as a member of the weymouth and portland mbc.
Spent the first weekend in september 2023 exhibiting at the Southern Model Show based at Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent. I have been going to this event since i started the boat section in 2001 and it just keeps getting better being an all aspect model show. This year i had my own UMD stand and showed the big type 45 pre refit plus another 12 boats, good job i bought a van. An excellent weekend as usual lots of boats, lots of boat clubs. For a full review and photos see the write up in Days out. On the way back to Devon on the monday i dropped the Type 45 hull off at Matt Becks boatyard and he is going to fibreglass it and seal it which is the first part of the now started big refit and detail.
Recently back from the Dover Transport museum model show a great annual event run by the dover model boat association who unfortunately cannot control the weather as while the sunday was great the saturday was extremely wet and very windy to the point where we lost our gazebo. Luckily our old club chantry was on site and had room for us to join them so a great weekend was still had by all.
Quick update on latest happenings. Recently went to the Yeovil model show nice little show great venue in a school much potential. At the show i noticed a nice man selling a 1/72 scale plastic model of the perkasa at a very very attractive price so had to get it. Since collected together the running gear complete with tiny lipo and propshaft just arrived so can have a go at that.
My daughter came across a nice boat from a work friend. It is a very old would guess 50's or 60's all wood model of a RAF range target towing launch. This just happens to be in the same scale as all my other ww2 fast boats of 1/24th scale. Its been very well made and came with an old taycol electric motor and set up for free running. Its now been repaired and has a probably too large brushless motor in it and full radio control. Article to follow.
Third news is i've been filling in the glue drying time with refitting a ready to run tug model with proper radio equipment to use as a have a go boat that's looking good.
